Long Overdue update...
Unfortunately, I didn't get to go to the NTA show this year. I just had too many other things going on. I also missed the CAT Show. I was really upset about that one, since it's my state association.
On a happier note, I've been busy with all kinds of things.
I've been working on a bunch of Red and Grey squirrels, a beaver, a raccoon pedestal, a mule deer, two coyotes, some sheep, an elk antler plaque, and a lynx. I'll be taking pictures as I complete everything.
I've been changing the shop up a bit, moving things around to make everything a bit more accessible. This task has proved to be more time consuming than I'd originally thought, but in the long run, it's worth it.
I'll be taking photos of the shop tomorrow, and will be updating the gallery.
I've decided to put up a partial price list on the site, instead of the whole thing... I might change my mind again, though. Only time will tell.
Nothin' much...
I'm working on a few things for the NTA show in July... Don't have a clue what I'll take. Probably something small, since I'll be flying and I'll need to ship it out ahead of me...
I'll probably be staying with Amy again, since the room fees are much smaller split between the two of us. I have to register still, and get my plane tickets. Perhaps I'm slightly ahead of myself...
More later,
Cheers
Back from the World Show!
Well, It's been an interesting past few months.
I spent a ton of time working on my competition piece, and in the end, I was unhappy with it (go figure). I was kicking myself the whole time I was doing the finish work, mainly because I knew I could do better.
I almost didn't take it to the World Show, but in the end, I'd already paid the fee so I figured I'd better do it.⇒ Read More...
I've been thinking...
I've been all over the internet recently, searching for taxidermy related blogs, forums, and such, and I can't help but notice the amount of pages that come up that are loosely related to the subject.
I Google "taxidermy" and come up with blog after blog of "Joe Someone" with a very opinionated rant about taxidermists and taxidermy being "wrong"... "unethical"... "disgusting"... "inappropriate"... "redneck" and so on, with only a few genuine taxidermy sites. I really didn't know taxidermy was such a popular subject.⇒ Read More...
World Taxidermy Competition!
It's coming to Reno! In April! Just two months away!
I've been scrambling like crazy trying to perfect my competition piece. I don't want to say what it is now, but I'll tell you soon.
I cast my own forms, cast my own tails, tanned the skins at home, and am still going crazy with the base work. I have all of these ideas and not one of them is suiting what I have in mind. I have so many ideas that I'm up late at night (4:35am) sketching things out.⇒ Read More...
Lax Day
Well...
Today, after waking up later than I wanted, I headed up to the shop to unpack all the goodies I ordered 2 weeks ago.
I unpacked the box and found that one of the three rabbit forms I ordered was damaged. It's ok... I can fix it ;).
I also got some more mounting materials.⇒ Read More...
Ticking Away
Well, last week at the Curry farm, our old Pot Belly Pig, Lilly, passed away. I decided that rather than just have her hauled to the dump, I'd mount her up. So in the abnormally cold midday, I skinned her for a nice mount. I'm going to make a form for her, since she's larger than a Boar form, and the face is completely different. It'll be a challenge, but that's what I enjoy about the work I do.⇒ Read More...
Wow...
Whew... I had a busy week. Since I've gotten in all of those specimens I have been working non-stop.
On Tuesday I had to tan the beaver, coyote, and raccoon to mount in the following weeks. Fun... I made an absolute mess of my counterpace and finally got that all cleaned up for next week.⇒ Read More...
Working...
I received a quite a few furs last week, from a fur dealer from New York. I also got a shipment of more equipment, and forms.
Right now, I'm working on an awesome mule deer shoulder mount. The cape is amazing.⇒ Read More...
