Wow...
Whew... I had a busy week. Since I've gotten in all of those specimens I have been working non-stop.
On Tuesday I had to tan the beaver, coyote, and raccoon to mount in the following weeks. Fun... I made an absolute mess of my counterpace and finally got that all cleaned up for next week.
On Wednesday I was able to sweat the mulie cape, and alter the other forms for the near future. I prepped the Mule deer mannikin for mounting, and cleaned up some of my tanning and pickling mess.
My sister slaughtered 4 of her rabbits for an upcoming dinner and asked if we could do something with the skins. So I sat her down and showed her how to dorsal skin a rabbit for life-size. With the two of us working on two rabbits each it only took something like two hours. She caught on real quick, which was expected. By that evening we got the rabbits in the pickle, and started the cleanup process.
On Thursday, with the rabbits pickling, I mounted the mulie on a semi sneak form, and groomed the thing for the rest of the day.
Friday, I got the coyote, beaver, and raccoon hides ready for mounting, and stuck them in the freezer. I still have to work on the manikin’s and make some alterations before I start mounting.
Spent some time grooming the mulie...
And, with the help of my sister, and one of her live Holland lop rabbits for reference, I sculpted a form to mount the rabbits on... She requested a show pose for two rabbits, and a lying down pose for one rabbit. She wanted the 4th rabbit to be made into a pelt, so there's no real work for me there.
Today I went up to the shop to check the Mule deer mount, groom a little bit, and I found a place where the fur is slipping... I checked the cape prior to mounting and didn't see a problem, and now today there's a tiny little spot that lost a dime size amount of hair, after a little bit of freaking out, I realized what I had to do to fix the issue...
Minor setback...
Until next week...
